What a monthly expense report is
A personal monthly expense report is a one-page summary of what came in, what went out and where it went last month. It's the quickest way to see whether your budget held, and what to change next month.
Looking for a company expense claim or reimbursement form? This page is about your own personal spending.
What to include
| Section | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Income vs spending | The one number that tells you whether the month worked. |
| Savings rate | The share of income you kept. Watch the trend over months, not one month. |
| Spending by category | Where the money actually went: rent, food, travel, shopping. |
| Budget vs actual | Which categories went over plan, and by how much. |
| Largest transactions | The few big payments that shape most months. |
How to make one by hand
- Collect the month's transactions from your UPI app history, bank statement and cash notes.
- Give each one a category, using the same categories every month so months compare.
- Total each category and compare it with your plan. The budget planner template has planned and actual columns ready.
- Write down one change for next month, and set that category's budget to match.
How Tindra makes it for you
If you track in Tindra, the report is already there. Its Reports screen shows:
- Income vs spending and your savings rate, every month.
- A category breakdown by day, week, month, 6 months or year.
- Your largest transactions for any period.
When you want it on paper or to share, export a clean PDF report. You can also export everything to CSV or Excel. Accounts in other currencies roll up into your base currency automatically.
Get your monthly report without the spreadsheet.
