One sheet, one month. Fill in what you plan to spend, then what you actually spent; the differences and totals add themselves up.

The CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Numbers. It has formulas for the differences and totals, and no macros.

What's in the budget planner template

ColumnWhat to enter
Category15 common Indian household categories to start, from rent and groceries to school fees and festivals. Rename or add rows.
TypeNeed, Want or Saving, so you can check your split against the 50/30/20 rule.
Planned (₹)What you plan to spend at the start of the month.
Actual (₹)What you really spent, filled in through the month.
Difference (₹)Calculated: planned minus actual. Negative means you overspent.

At the top, enter the month and your take-home income. The bottom rows total your plan and show how much income is still unallocated.

How to use it

  1. Open it. In Excel, double-click the file. In Google Sheets, choose File → Import → Upload, and keep "Convert text to numbers, dates and formulas" on.
  2. Plan. Enter your take-home income, then a planned amount for each category until "Unallocated" reaches ₹0. Not sure how to split it? Try the 50/30/20 budget planner.
  3. Track. Add each expense to the Actual column as you go, or once a week from your UPI history and bank statement.
  4. Review. At month end, look at the biggest negative differences. Those categories need a bigger plan, or a smaller habit.

A template works until you forget to fill it in. Tindra fills in the "actual" column for you: UPI auto-capture drafts expenses from payment alerts on your phone, and you approve each one with a tap. Monthly budgets per category show progress bars and warn you before you overspend. You can export everything to CSV, Excel or PDF whenever you want a copy.
